Make-Ahead Pizza Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Getting it done:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the crushed tomatoes, garlic, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and olive oil. Stir until well combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a blender or food processor and puree until smooth.
- Pour the sauce into a large saucepan and bring it to a simmer over medium heat.
- Reduce the heat to low and simmer the sauce, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes or until it has thickened slightly.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature
- Once the sauce has cooled, transfer it to a sealable container or jar and refrigerate for up to 1 week or freeze for up to 3 months.
- When you're ready to use the sauce, simply remove it from the refrigerator or freezer and let it come to room temperature before spreading it on your pizza crust.
- *Note: This recipe makes about 2 cups of pizza sauce. If you prefer a spicier sauce, you can add some crushed red pepper flakes to the mixture.
